This lively view of the busy main street in Bishop Auckland, County Durham, probably dates from around 1900, although the scene is still clearly recognisable today. It is an exceptional and highly detailed image, and especially interesting because of the crowds of people, in particular the children who have gathered around to watch the photographer.
