This delightful gouache painting, probably from around 1900, is a very rare example of an early image showing women's participation in sport. Superbly detailed and retaining fresh colour, it has a somewhat pre-raphaelite style which gives it particular charm, and will be of special interest to collectors of early tennis images and memorabilia.
