This early image of Blagraves House shows the building with its original wing and before the addition of the stone figures to the facade.
Of the many images of this well known medieval building, this is probably one of the earliest and most evocative. The poster on the wall to the right of the door is advertising the harvest festival in the parish church. Unfortunately it carries no date but is probably in the mid 1880s.
The shop to the left was a butcher and game dealer, hence the covered window. The fine mid-Georgian house to the right was The Shoulder of Mutton Inn, known locally as the 'Bucket of Blood" for its reputation for frequent fights.
Probably the best early photograph of Blagraves House, this image has very fine detail and is in excellent condition.
