This candid view of the upper end of Horsemarket looks towards Scar Top and what is now the Post Office.

This finely detailed image includes several local characters who are clearly fascinated by the photographer’s activity. The poles set into the kerb by the lamp post are supports for the window canopies which were a common feature on Victorian shopfronts.
