Abbey Bridge is a familiar single span bridge across the River Tees at Rokeby, and was a toll bridge until the 1950s (see cat no. YB0039).

This impressive view of the bridge after a heavy snow fall shows its scale and spectacular setting across the gorge below. The bridge has been a popular subject for artists since its construction, including Turner who painted it on a number of occasions.
