This rare and delightful image of the centre of Staindrop is atekn from the South Green and shows Central Buildings with Office Square to the right and the Parish Church in the background. Remarkably, this view remains largely unchanged with most of the buildings still unaltered. The shadowy figure on the road coming towards the camera is a horse and rider. The shop in the centre of the photograph may have been a hardware store, since the window display contains a range of jugs, pots and pans.
