Ulrich Salchow (1877-1949) – Sweden - gold medal winner of the men’s figure skating in the 1908 London Olympics. The dominant figure skater of the era, he is remembered today as the creator of the Salchow jump in which the skater takes off from the back inside edge of one foot and lands backwards on the outside edge of the opposite foot.
