Martin Joseph Sheridan (1881-1918) – USA – discus. Sheridan was one of several Irish-born medal winners on the 1908 US team. Emigrating from Ireland to New York at the age of 16, Sheridan went on to win 9 Olympic medals as a member of the Irish American Athletic Club of New York in a variety of events: discus, shot put, standing high jump, standing long jump and stone throw. At the first London Olympics he won two gold medals for Discus (freestyle and Classical).
