George Edward Larner (1877-1949) & Earnest James Webb (1874-1937) - GB -pedestrians. Throughout the 19th century the British had a worldwide reputation as hardy walkers. Larner and Webb confirmed this in the long distance walking races at the 1908 Olympics. They first led the field in the 3,500 Meter Walk, winning gold and silver respectively. Three days later they again took gold and silver in the 10-mile Walk during which epic race Larner broke two world records (one for 9 miles and the second for 10 miles).
