The Tug of War: A British policeman pulls over the Swedish Team. Only five teams entered the 1908 Tug-of-War contest and three of those teams were made up of British policemen. The Swedish team was beaten in the first round. The American team abandoned the contest, complaining that their opponents, a team of Liverpool police, were wearing illegal footwear. The final was an all-British affair. The gold medal was won by the City of London police team.
